OUTBREAK!
How do you solve an epidemic?  How do you share your information with the public?  These were the two essential questions 8thgrade students in Mrs. Poetzel’s science classes were asked to complete in their Bacteria, Virus and Protist unit.  Students explored an outbreak in a community online through the National Institute of Health.

They were given various data and a time line of events.  Then as a team they worked together to come up with patient zero, the illness, where the illness is coming from and how to stop it.
Once the epidemic was solved students created a breaking news story to inform the public about the outbreak.

FLEX.....      IT'S HOW WE START OUR DAY !

Meet Ms. Nadia Nimmow, child and youth counselor.  At least that’s where Nimmow’s interests lean in her early teens. There’s plenty of time to decide on a career later, but Nimmow is getting a good idea of how her passions translate to the working world.
“I love building my communication skills in  language arts and working with young adults so I can help them,” said Nimmow, whose mother is a social worker.

Once again, we are going “green” and not mailing a “summer packet,” but rather have placed all forms
and information on our website.

Medical Investigation Meets Journalism

North Middle School students in Menomonee Falls have turned into medical researchers and news reporters in solving the case of a mysterious illness in a nearby community.
Over a two-week period, Julie Poetzel and Brandon Nelsen’s students researched, wrote and reported on the source of the sickness and how to prevent its spread. The disease was, fortunately, fiction; the learning was lively.

UNLEASHING OUR POWER.....
Curriculum in the Kitchen

These life skills go better with a side of bacon!  It may be one of the most delicious lessons they’ve ever done, and one of the most hectic. The most important meal of the day takes on extra significance when they’re cooking for their peers, and when said peers get to serve as critics.  But North Middle School’s “Top Chef” competition sure beats reading breakfast from a book.

Seeing the Endless Possibilities - Open House 2013

Open House was held in the evening of September 26th, 2013.  The format allowed families to visit any or all of their child’s classrooms at their leisure.  It was a wonderful opportunity for parents to meet their child’s teachers and have their child share the continuous improvement goals set in each classroom. North’s PTSO hosted a successful Scholastic Book Fair and North’s WEB leaders provided tutorial sessions in the LMC on both Powerschool and School Fusion for any interested families.  Watch Video Here

Student Parent Information Night - SUCCESS

The evening began in the auditorium with a presentation of information helpful to families of students new to North.  Following the presentation, building maps were distributed so everyone had the opportunity to become acquainted with the building. A Book Fair was sponsored by PTSO and a Co-Curricular fair gave students the opportunity to learn about the clubs, sports and after school activities available to them.  In addition, one-on-one tutorials were be available in the Library Media Center. The tutorials taught families how to access teachers'  School Fusion pages, PowerSchool and other helpful information.   Eighth grade WEB Leaders were on hand throughout the evening to provide support and guidance to North's incoming middle level learners. Learn More.
